Module 2 Reflection Prompt

How do the artifacts in your pre-competencies verification reflect your technology use as an educator? In light of your learning about TPACK, identify areas of improvement needed.

Description

My reflection for module 2 is based off of the class reading assignments including chapter 2 of ISTE's Technology Facilitation and Leadership Standards as well as chapters 1 and 3 from the Handbook of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK) for Educators. It is also based off of the discussions for module 2 and my completed work of the Pre-competencies Verification Assessment.

Impact

Throughout module 2, I realized that I utilize technology more than I thought I did. I think sometimes it is easy to forget that even "old" technology is still considered technology. For example, I am so used to using PowerPoint and Microsoft Word and even the internet, that I don't think of using those items as integrating technology into my classroom. I need to realize that just because I am not using some fancy "new" technology all the time does not mean I am not integrating technology into my classroom.

I utilize the technology I have access to in a variety of ways. I use the programs on my computer to make charts and graphs of student progress. I design formative and summative assessments when appropriate. I use various websites and tools to gain ideas for lesson plans. I participate in professional development via my computer through the use of blogs. I communicate with parents, colleagues, and community members through the use of newsletters and my class website. In the areas I need to improve in, I am amazed by the amount of technology I use in my classroom and life once I sat down and thought about it. I realize I shouldn't take advantage of the fact that I have access to more technology than I was previously aware. I need to use the technology I have available to me to the best of my ability.

Intent

As a result of my learning, I will continue to use the technology I have available to me. I will not take for granted the fact that I have technology available to me. I will continue to participate in professional development that will enhance my knowledge of technology in order for me to integrate the use of technology in my classroom that promotes student learning.
